Project 2 Cat cushion

A friend's daughter has her birthday early January. I asked her what she wanted: a home made dress or a cushion for decoration. She choose the latter. I made a cat from African batik on a white background. Made coloured stripes and little corners to give the whole some depth. I cut her name in vinyl using the ScanNCut, ironed it on, sewed a layer of white background, and added a purple back side. Ready for giving to Elise.

Project 1 Green shawl

Last year I knitted a green cardigan and had ordered way to much yarn. What to do with this .... mmmm ... good question. As many crafters I wanted to make handmade Christmas gifts. If only I had more time, more hours in a day, ...... Started knitting a shawl on the Bond. Skipping each 3 needles - three needles. However my Bond did not agree to this. So, knitted one continues shawl, dropped three stitches with three kept on the needles. In order not to loose all the work, I hand knitted two rows at the end before binding off. Same for the side where I started knitting. Removed the waste yarn, knitted two rows before binding off. To finish I crocheted two rows around the shawl; one row single crochet and one row doublecrochet (US terms). Finished it all the first of January ready to give away.

January 2017

In 2016 I had set myself the challenge to complete 52 projects. I did not make it .... reached a total of 39 projects. Although if I add the number of times that I redid the white cardigan ... well ok, still not 52.

So for 2017, challenging myself again with 52 projects. Let's see how far I get this time :-)

2016 Crossroads Quilt Along

I fell in with the Crossroad Quilt from the Fat Quarter Shop. Only I have never made such a quilt and no idea if I could do this, would see it through and actually like it. The advantage with this project was going to be the handouts that are shared each month, the videos explaining how to go about and the facebook page specially dedicated to this. All the information on the quilt can be found at http://fatquartershop.blogspot.fr/p/crossroads.html
So in order to keep my self going each block is considered a project in itself. Georgeous kits are sold with all the required fabric in one package, however purchasing the kit was not an option, also because I still have so much fabric. A whole collection of African Batiks from Woodin, modern designs, thick good quality cotton.

As I did not have enough different fabrics I played with the colours and the different patterns. Three different fabrics looked like six different ones. After all I wanted to use my African Woodin fabrics and complement with solid colours. I organized my fabrics and the instructions and started with the first one.

The Crossroads Quilt Along benefits March of Dimes, an organization whose mission is to prevent premature births.

The first block is the house block, 4 cute houses.

Project 19 Blue batik dress

Last year I received beautiful silk fabric and I wanted to make a dress out of it. So before cutting in the silk I wanted to be sure that the dress I selected would fit. I made a cotton one from Batik bought in Indonesia in 2010. The model looked nice, however I had to make too many adjustments to remake the dress in silk.
